In Simon's own words: "I graduated from Miami Beach High School in 1956. (oy vey) Went to Pace College in New York for two years for Accounting and Business Law (another oy vey) Hated it, quit and ran off to Hawaii where I surfed and sunned for too long (I think years). Upon returning I got a menial (that means almost no pay) job (but loved every minute) as a copy boy at Variety. Decided I loved the theater and studied acting at the New York Dramatic Workshop. After years of training I found out I was a lousy actor, but I got a job working as famed but wacky producer Saint Subber's gofer (also no pay). Learned the ropes, however, and worked my way up to Associate Producer for Gore Vidal's "Weekend" with John Forsythe. It flopped but I loved seeing my name in lights on the marquee. Also produced Off-Broadway (nothing but flops)...gave Raul Julia, Michael Douglas their first professional jobs. Began to write reviews (and other drivel) for Herald Publications, a new Jersey based group of local newspapers. Then worked as reviewer and feature story writer for ten years (1982 - 92) for (Morristown-based) New Jersey Daily Record. In 1992 I was fired because they didn't want New York reviews any more. I was immediately scooped up by Princeton's US 1 Newspaper and have been with them for the past ten years.
