“The Shape of Things” is a play that asks provocative questions about the definitions and boundaries of art. The VTG production stars Deven Anderson, Alice Bahlke, Kirk Gostkowski, and Melissa Haley Smith and is directed by Rich Ferraioli. In a review of the first run of VTG’s production of “Shape,” the Queens Chronicle said, “Variations Theatre Group is setting the bar high... the fledgling company has staged one of the most captivating productions the borough (Queens) has seen this year. Its rendition of Neil LaBute’s ‘The Shape of Things’ is sharp, thought-provoking and superbly acted."

Ferraioli said they chose this play as the debut production for VTG because, “...we aim to do plays that challenge one’s beliefs about theatre or at least allow the audience to question what they have just seen. I always tell my casts that I would rather the audience hate the play than feel indifferent about it. Any reaction is better than none! That’s how The Shape of Things came about. It is a play that has a surprise ending and fits with the general style of our productions.”
